Compare this exchange with Tennant’s Doctor and Harriet Jones in his debut episode “The Christmas Invasion” (2005) when Harriet has the Sycrorax spaceship destroyed, with the argument showing that the Doctor won’t always be there to protect the earth and she does what she must do. This is perhaps best shown when the Doctor and Robertson confront each other after the latter has shot the big spider in “Arachnids in the UK”. The writers sadly don’t seem to have a grasp of who the Doctor is or what Doctor Who is about as the whole show is at best hesitant and weak as consequence. The stories of any typical DW episode are meant to bring that mystique, escapism, wonder, creativity and compelling story telling to the viewer, however most if not all the episodes lack that hook to keep things interesting and can lead one to wonder if watching paint dry is better than the amount that has been produced. Writing/Story-telling – This is the biggest and fatal flaw to this series. So, why give this only one star? The answer sadly is the episodes themselves that generate so much disappointment and the potential to move Doctor Who into a bright future with the first female Doctor is let down by a number of points of the following: You also have Ryan, one of the younger companions enjoying the ride and the other one… what was her name… that’s it, Yaz, who is a let-down as the character is underused and despite exploring her background and family in episodes 4 & 6, we still don’t know much about her and is generally forgotten. The best companion out of all has to be Bradley Walsh character and one can wonder why Bradley didn’t get the Doctor role.
#The tsuranga conundrum space gremlin series
The companions for this series sees Bradley Walsh play ‘Graham’, Tosin Cole as ‘Ryan’ and Mandip Gill as ‘Yasmin’ and brings back the very template of having three on board the TARDIS, something new in the revived era but was used back to the very foundations of Doctor Who. Jodie attempts to do a good job, but one cannot help but cringe as she takes on the performances of David Tenant and Job Pertwee at the same time and sometimes be forgiven for thinking that at times Jodie does tend to drone on and on a little too much in some situations. I’ll admit I was hesitant by the BBC to do this but decided to wait and see the first female Doctor in action. To start right at the beginning of this sorry saga, we have to take a trip into the TARDIS to the 16th July 2017 on a Sunday afternoon during Wimbledon where the one-minute trailer revealed that fated hooded person to be Jodie Whittaker with key in hand. I will state from the off that I’ am a fan of Doctor Who in both the classic and revived era’s and judging the run of this series in its entirety, I sadly have to conclude that this is an utter disappointment and feels nothing like the Doctor Who…
